Our New Home

This post is a long time coming. I have not taken as many photos of our house as I would like, but we’re still working on things and changing things as we go.

We spent exactly a year building our house, from the approval of our building permit, to our move-in day.

We hired many crews independently to work on the things we couldn’t do ourselves, but we were able to accomplish a lot on our own and saved a lot of money in the process.

It’s not something I care to do again, but it certainly taught us a lot and made us a stronger family in the process.

I am so impressed with my amazing husband.

His creativity and ability to do above and beyond what is necessary, is so admirable.

He is responsible for all the impressive and beautiful parts of our home. From the handmade lights, to the small creative accents in our doors and fireplaces.

He has an incredibly creative mind and a perseverance to see his vision come to fruition.

This was definitely a part-time (sometimes full-time) job for us both over the course of that year. It was exhausting and frustrating, and wonderful and exciting all at the same time.

I have to praise the amazing people in our lives who came out to help, support us, bring us food, lay down floors, paint, carry concrete counters and just pray and write verses on our walls.

We felt so encouraged and supported by all our family and friends, and definitely couldn’t have done it at all without each one of them.

Above all, our Father was faithful in His goodness to us through this process. It wasn’t without mistakes and sometimes very costly ones.

But, we were not injured or emotionally defeated the whole year and He allowed us to love each other in a new and more powerful way.

We had always heard that this process can be so costly to a marriage, but it bonded us deeper, and we have God to thank for that.

We’ve done some other beautiful things to the interior and exterior, but I haven’t taken great photos of it yet.

I have made my husband a website, though, where we update some house photos every now and then. Check it out at:

So, here is the process, from the buying of land, to the moving day.

In honor of my big sister’s birthday today, here is a look at her beautiful family.

This was a very quick shoot we did for their Christmas cards this year.

Aren’t they beautiful?!:)

Grifenhagen Family ~ Nashville, TN Family and Children’s Photographer

At the end of 2014, I had to say goodbye to some long-time client’s of mine as they move on to a new State and

a new life. We did our final shoot at Linus’s 3rd birthday party.

I am honored to have been able to document his last three years, and most of the first year with beautiful little Mable.

I will miss you, Grifenhagens.:(

My Busy Season

I tend to fail miserably in my blogging between October and December, since that’s when I’m busiest.

But, thankfully it’s a new year and I have a chance to catch up and reflect on all the great clients I got to see in the past few months.

Here is a sampling of what I’ve been doing, and some of my favorites.
